Visa FAQs
QCan I extend my visa while in Tanzania?
Yes, visa extensions are possible at the Immigration Office in Dar es Salaam or other major cities. Apply before your current visa expires. Extensions cost approximately $50-100 USD.
QDo children need their own visa?
Yes, all travelers including children need their own visa. Children may be exempt from the fee if traveling with parents in some cases - check the e-visa portal for current rules.
QCan I visit Kenya and return to Tanzania on a single-entry visa?
Consider an East Africa Tourist Visa ($100) which allows travel between Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda for 90 days. Otherwise, you'll need a new Tanzania visa upon re-entry.
QWhat if my e-visa is delayed?
If you don't receive your e-visa in time, you can still get a visa on arrival at major entry points. Bring your e-visa application reference number.
QIs there a transit visa?
Transit visas are available for stays under 7 days at a reduced fee. However, most transit passengers don't need a visa if not leaving the airport.
QCan I visit Zanzibar with my Tanzania visa?
Yes! Zanzibar is part of Tanzania, so your Tanzania visa covers Zanzibar. No additional visa needed.
East Africa Tourist Visa
Planning to visit multiple East African countries? The East Africa Tourist Visa lets you travel freely between Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda for 90 days.
Cost
$100 USD
Validity
90 days
Note: Tanzania is not currently part of the East Africa Tourist Visa scheme. You'll need a separate Tanzania visa.
