Pro Tips

Make your entry into Tanzania smooth and stress-free

Apply Early

Submit your e-visa application at least 2 weeks before travel to avoid last-minute issues.

Print Everything

Print your e-visa, hotel bookings, and safari itinerary. Having physical copies helps at immigration.

USD Cash

Bring clean, unmarked US dollar bills from 2006 or later. Older bills may be rejected.

Be Patient

Immigration queues can be long, especially during peak season. Budget extra time at the airport.

Visa FAQs

QCan I extend my visa while in Tanzania?

Yes, visa extensions are possible at the Immigration Office in Dar es Salaam or other major cities. Apply before your current visa expires. Extensions cost approximately $50-100 USD.

QDo children need their own visa?

Yes, all travelers including children need their own visa. Children may be exempt from the fee if traveling with parents in some cases - check the e-visa portal for current rules.

QCan I visit Kenya and return to Tanzania on a single-entry visa?

Consider an East Africa Tourist Visa ($100) which allows travel between Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda for 90 days. Otherwise, you'll need a new Tanzania visa upon re-entry.

QWhat if my e-visa is delayed?

If you don't receive your e-visa in time, you can still get a visa on arrival at major entry points. Bring your e-visa application reference number.

QIs there a transit visa?

Transit visas are available for stays under 7 days at a reduced fee. However, most transit passengers don't need a visa if not leaving the airport.

QCan I visit Zanzibar with my Tanzania visa?

Yes! Zanzibar is part of Tanzania, so your Tanzania visa covers Zanzibar. No additional visa needed.
